ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My work reflects the ever changing landscapes of my mind. I am inspired by what I read, the diversity of people I meet, the places I visit, and the pursuit to create exceptional Art.
Biography
Carolyn is a life long learner and former teacher of eighteen years. Even twenty five years after receiving a Bachelor’s degree in French, she’s still taking university classes working towards an advanced degree. She hopes to be in school forever. “The more I learn, the more I have yet to learn,” is a phrase heard often from Carolyn.
Acquiring knowledge just makes her more curious. The curiosity leads to questions of “Why,” which in turn leads to further research. Eventually her grasp of a subject leads her to wonder how she could translate it visually. The result of the latter is the art work. This curiosity and love of Art began early in childhood. Carolyn doodled on every magazine face she could find wondering how she could enhance it. No image in the house was safe from being transformed visually. Carolyn now has the chance to pursue her natural artistic inclination.
Fortunately, Carolyn has had the opportunity to be exposed to people of different ethnicities due to world travel and teaching second language learners as an elementary school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Being bilingual in Spanish and using Art throughout the curriculum provided her students with a rich, satisfying, successful learning program. Always striving to perfect her Art and language abilities, Carolyn will travel to Europe in the coming months to study Drawing, and of course practice Spanish. While traveling, this artist develops an appreciation for each place. She is a keen observer of the visual distinctiveness amongst cultures. This past summer Carolyn had the opportunity to visit Utah for the very first time. There, she was intrigued by nature’s own architectural structures: vast plains and beautiful mountains. Observing wild horses, galloping through the rocky edifices, demonstrating their sense of freedom, and spirited nature, inspired Carolyn to illustrate her interpretation of this vision. So the depiction of horses on canvas began and continues.
Understanding relationships in space is the key to good Art for Carolyn. Being able to depict a clear understanding of the aforementioned is what differentiates an ordinary piece of art work from an exceptional one. By constantly refining and working on her Art skills, she’s always striving to create the extraordinary.
